 Community Involvement

Helping People is Our Mission

Pickett Dummigan Weingart is committed to serving our community inside and outside of the courtroom. We’re proud of the community we live in, and we encourage members of our firm and the general public to get engaged in helping others. Our firm believes that community service is not only beneficial, but necessary for public and personal growth.

Creating a Safer Portland

As members of the Street Trust, formerly the Bicycle Transportation Alliance, we do our part to keep the roads safe for all users.

Helmet Donations

Not wearing a helmet is the number one preventable cause of head injuries. However, many families cannot afford to buy helmets. To this end, we’ve donated hundreds of helmets to disadvantaged communities around Portland.

We’ve also teamed up with the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association and Legacy Emanuel Hospital to provide and fit helmets for our neighbors at Good in the Hood’s annual event in which focused acts of kindness are a means of inspiring everyone to behave with decency, respect and kindness. Everyone, rich or poor, should be able to enjoy a bicycle ride safely.

Share the Road

Traffic safety extends beyond bicyclists. As part of our commitment to making the community a safer place, our attorney Christopher Larsen has created an innovative traffic law and safety program called the Share the Road Safety Class.

Created in 2007 with the approval of the Multnomah Circuit Court, Share the Road helps those who have made a traffic mistake become smarter and safer drivers. This class is also offered in Spanish and Russian, and provides education to all road users — bicyclists, pedestrians, and motor vehicle drivers.

Chris volunteers his time working with trauma nurses, law enforcement, and community safety advocates. Together, they offer drivers the option of taking the Share the Road Class to get their traffic violation dismissed instead of having to pay a fine. Over 20,000 people have taken Share the Road Safety Class, which has helped to reduce traffic crashes and injuries in our community.

Supporting Community Education

Education is a path to success, and our attorneys and staff strongly believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn.

We love going into Portland schools to help teach about the law. We also support extraordinary students by donating to the IME Becas Scholarship and the Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber Scholarship. We’re proud to know that some of these students end up working with our nation’s top senators on Capitol Hill!
